Metallic Stag Beetle
This specimen is made interesting by two features. First, and more obviously, are its enormous mandibles, which extend to almost half its body length. Its scientific name (Cyclommatus metallifer) alludes to its second distinguishing feature - namely, its greenish-gold metallic colour which shifts with the light.
These specimens are sourced from Indonesia and preserved by us in small glass domes; the domes measure 6.5cm by 10cm, and look great on mantles, shelves, desks, and side tables.
